Dragonflies
Why are they beneficial?
The dragonfly feasts on around 600 insects per day such as gnats and flies and it is one of the main predators of mosquitoes.
Dragonfly Biology
Dragonflies lay their ants onto aquatic plants or directly in the water where they begin their lives living as a nymph underwater. The adult dragonfly comes out of the skin of the nymph to develop into a winged creature of either bright green, blue or red colours. In their adulthood, they will live up to 2 months.1
Where to Find Dragonflies?
Dragonflies can be found in aquatic habitats (marshes, ponds, lakes etc.). In the winter the nymphs live underwater and emerge in the springtime as they mature into adults.2
Dragonfly Facts
Dragonflies are highly depended on their eyesight, which gives them the capability of focusing on objects 20 feet away.3 A single compound eye of a dragonfly may contain anywhere from 10,000 - 30,000 individual simple eyes called ocelli.
