Outdoor Bug Tips
Enjoy the Outdoors with Fewer Pests!
Nothing worse than finding the fruits of your labour eaten by pests or working on a project in the garden and hearing the buzzing sound of a mosquito about to bite.
Beneficial bugs
- Predatory insects, such as ground beetles, ladybugs, and spiders contribute to the elimination of aphids, and other harmful insects.
- Ladybugs feed almost exclusively on aphids, whereas spiders feed on many insects.
Entertaining outdoors
- Ants are often found in the cracks of your stone, wood or brick backyard.
- To minimize the presence of such pests keep food, especially meat and sweets, sealed and the area in which you are entertaining clean of food and spills.
- Ants are social insects and live in colonies that can consist of millions of ants. You can use a federally registered insect control product to kill the colonies in your yard.
Don’t let crawling and biting intruders make preparation and hard work go to waste by driving guests indoors. Make the party less inviting to insects by keeping food covered and garbage and scraps far from the entertaining area.
In the yard
- Protect yourself and your family with insect repellent. A repellent can be sprayed directly on the skin to help keep a variety of biting insects at bay.
- Mosquitoes are attracted to darker colours that absorb radiation and create more heat, to nervous, easily agitated people, and to damp stagnant areas.
